Visa Card is spreading its tentacles into new grounds once again. This time, it’s the 2020 Olympics set to hold in the Japanese famous city, Tokyo.
Visa has reached an agreement to provide free credit cards at the sport festival in collaboration with Orient and Line Pay. Visa has also vowed to offer cardholders reward points and make it possible for them to use the card for local and international payments.
Also, Visa has announced that the new card will not only be given for free in its first year of release, the second year will be free if cardholders use their cards at least once during the first year.
The normal annual fee of the card is JPY 1,250 (without tax) if the cardholders did not used the card at all during the first year.
For new cardholders, they will get an immediate notification via the Line App whenever a transaction is made. Furthermore, cardholders will be able to connect the card to Line Pay in order to make m-payments. Another key feature that will be made available is the Visa contactless.
More details concerning the new card will be disclosed as soon as applications are open to interested individuals.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics: When can you get the new Visa card ?
Using the Line Pay platform, interested customers will be able to pre-register for the new card starting from August 2019.
Visa card will be the sole technology payment sponsor to be used as the means of payment for the 2020 Olympics Games coming in the famous Asian city of Tokyo.
As earlier announced by the organizing committee, the 2020 Olympic Games will kick off on Friday, July 24 and end on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
The Paralympic edition will commence on August 25 and end on September 6, 2020. Up to 10,500 athletes from 206 countries participated in the previous edition in Brazil in 2016.
So, Visa is looking forward to opening its doors to as many people as possible who have interest in using their cards for payments during the Olympic and beyond.
Tokyo 2020 Olympics: How Line Pay and Visa Card teamed up
At the start of June, Visa Card and Line Pay reached an agreement to create financial services for their joint customers. Both firms plan to work together to provide several financial solutions that will create a win-win situation for their customer base.
These financial services include marketing initiatives, consumer payment solutions, fin-tech tools, easier and payment solutions etc.
To celebrate the sport festival, the red exclusive design, inspired by the flag of Japan will be offered in collaboration with Orico and Line Pay.
